TelOne ADSL – Your Ultimate Guide to TelOne ADSL
In this article, we are going to look at Tel-One’s ADSL service. TelOne ADSL is the only ADSL service on offer in Zimbabwe. This is due to the fact that ADSL uses fixed phone lines for data transmission. Tel-One is the only fixed telephone phone service provider in Zimbabwe.
TelOne ADSL is the only ADSL internet provider in Zimbabwe due to the fact that ADSL operates on a fixed telephone network. Tel-One has a monopoly on this sector in Zimbabwe. TelOne ADSL runs on the ADSL2+ connection which is capable of reaching download speeds of 4 Mbps.
What is Tel-One ADSL?
Throughout the history of Zimbabwe, there has only been a single player in the fixed telephony space. Tel-One has been the sole player in this sector which puts them at an advantage when it comes to ADSL connectivity.
ADSL runs on the back of the extensive fixed telephone network which Tel-One has. At the present moment, Zimbabwe only offers ADSL2+ with maximum speeds of 4 Mbps. These speeds are good enough for streaming and most data demands that the average Zimbabwean user has. Though ADSL speeds are not as good as Fibre speeds, for example, they are more than sufficient.
With an ADSL connection you can view YouTube videos without buffering and you are able to get onto live stream sports, view content on Netflix as well as do video conferencing without any problems. With e-learning now a part of our experience especially since the Covid inspired lockdowns, your ADSL connection can handle this seamlessly as well.
ADSL is also slightly cheaper than your standard Fibre connection. Due to the wide telephone line network coverage in a large part of Zimbabwe, ADSL has an edge over a fibre optic connection. The wide coverage means that connecting you to the backbone of the system is relatively easy.
A lot of homes and commercial buildings in older suburbs already have the infrastructure in place for you to connect to Tel-One’s ADSL without much of a fuss.
How do I Get Tel-One ADSL?
Getting Tel-One ADSL is really easy. You can do it in two ways. The first way is to go to a Tel-One branch near you where you fill out a connection request. You will be required to produce the relevant documentation during the application process which includes your national ID, Passport or Drivers License as well as proof of residence.
Once you fill out the form and submit it, it will be taken for vetting. When approved, you will usually be connected within a few days.
The second way you can get connected is by applying online through their website. You fill out the application form then submit it as well as the required documentation all through their website. The installation cost includes a router.
Currently, Tel-One uses the Huawei HG531v1 for ADSL connections. If you already have a phone line, the installation process will be quick. If there is no existing telephone connection to your business premises or residence, the installation staff will need to run the connection from the nearest main line to your residence first before installing your modem.
Once your modem is installed, you get your username and password set up. You usually pick these out yourself and the technicians will set them up for you. By this point, you are set to go.
